Guest services volunteers in Killian Court are vital to the success of Commencement at MIT. They give directions, answer questions, make conversation with guests, and help them solve problems. Every year, friendly and resourceful MIT community members help make this day a great one for all.
If you are interested in volunteering for this year's Commencement, online registration is now open.
Volunteers work under the guidance of an experienced section leader and are prepared for anything thanks to the mandatory training session earlier in the week of Commencmenet. Guests start arriving several hours before the ceremony, so the volunteer time commitment on Commencement Day is 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; breakfast and lunch are provided. Undergraduates who complete the volunteer commitment are permitted to extend their campus housing until Saturday, June 5, but please note that you must register by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 14, to qualify.
We offer another volunteer opportunity: to work in guest services at the Hooding Ceremony on June 3, 2010. At MIT, PhD and ScD degree candidates receive their doctoral hoods at a separate ceremony in Rockwell Cage in the Johnson Athletics Center on the day before Commencement. The time commitment for Hooding is approximately 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 3. Please use the online form to volunteer. Questions about Hooding may be directed to Traci Swartz.
For more information, please contact John McDonald, director for guest services.
Questions about registration? Please e-mail Alecia Batson.
