Since 2001, MIT’s recognition programs have meant that outstanding teams and individuals working across MIT are celebrated for their contributions to the Institute. In 2014, the Collier Medal joined the Excellence Awards to further call attention to exceptional students, staff, faculty, and community members in the memory of Officer Sean Collier. MIT’s culture of recognition continues to grow, with the help of nominators who raise awareness of excellence at MIT.

Now is the time to recognize! Nominations for the 2016 MIT Excellence Awards and the Collier Medal are welcome through Monday, Oct. 19. Submit your nominations online at hrweb.mit.edu/rewards/excellence.

The MIT Excellence Awards and the Collier Medal represent MIT staff and the MIT community at their best. There are seven award categories:

  • Advancing Inclusion and Global Perspectives
  • Bringing out the Best
  • Innovative Solutions
  • Outstanding Contributor (formerly Unsung Hero)
  • Serving the Client
  • Sustaining MIT
  • The Collier Medal

Award criteria, tips for writing, and previous award recipients can be found on the MIT Rewards and Recognition website. Recipients for the 2016 MIT Excellence Awards and Collier Medal are determined by a 14-person selection committee, and celebrated at the awards ceremony, taking place on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at 3 p.m. in Kresge Auditorium. The entire MIT community is welcome to attend the event and reception.
