MIT sophomore Michael Nackoul won a bronze medal in the 85 kilo class at the 2011 National Collegiate Weightlifting Championships. Nackoul lifted 131 kilos (288 lbs.) in the Snatch event and 170 kilos (374 lbs.) in the Clean & Jerk event. His total of 301 kilos garnered him the Bronze medal, finishing behind 2008 Olympian Kendrick Farris of LSU Shreveport, the host university.
Nackoul will compete in July as a member of the USA team at the World Junior Weightlifting Championships in Penang, Malaysia. A veteran of the Junior World Championships who represented the USA in Bucharest, Romania, in 2009, Nackoul has also won two previous School-Age (high school) National Weightlifting Championships.
