MIT's 1998-99 United Way campaign successfully concluded earlier this month with a final tally of $322,236 in pledges, or $236 over the donation goal. A total of 1,180 people made contributions, including 85 Leadership Givers who donated at least $1,000 apiece.
Raffle prize winners drawn from the pool of all who donated were announced at a chief solicitors' end-of-campaign celebration on February 9. Prize winners were as follows:
Overnight stays for two at area hotels -- Professor Ali Argon, mechanical engineering (Residence Inn in Cambridge); Elizabeth Garvin, Alumni/ae Association (University Park Hotel at MIT); Jane Pavone, Medical Department (Doubletree Guest Suites); Paul Cannavino, Lincoln Lab (Inn at Harvard); William Conley, Lincoln Fiscal Office (Cambridge Inn); and Heather Trickett, Residential Life Office (Boston Marriott/Cambridge).
Pairs of tickets to area arts performances -- Melissa Marquardt, Alumni/ae Association (jazz show at Scullers Jazz Club); Professor Erich Ippen, electrical engineering and computer science (Balanchine! at the Boston Ballet); John Doty, Center for Space Research (a March performance of The Steward of Christendom at the Huntington Theatre); Professor Martha Gray, Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, and Joseph Harrington, School of Engineering (pairs of tickets to a March 26 performance of A Romantic Extravaganza by the Boston Classical Orchestra); Mary Harney, Lincoln Laboratory (Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse); and Associate Professor Qingyan Chen, architecture (Shear Madness at the Charles Playhouse).
