MIT's annual United Way campaign has raised $253,841 as of January 5, putting the Institute at 81 percent of its fund-raising goal. The donor total stands at 1,050, including 59 Leadership Givers donating at least $1,000 apiece.
Although the campaign officially ended on December 31, the Office of Special Community Services will continue to accept donations through this month. Another $61,159 is needed to reach MIT's goal.
Everyone at MIT who makes a pledge or donation is automatically entered in the United Way end-of-campaign raffle. Prizes will include overnight stays for two at the Inn at Harvard and the Charles Hotel; meals at the Cambridge Center Marriott and the Hyatt Regency Hotel; tickets to Shear Madness, the Boston Ballet's An American in Paris and the Huntington Theater's Collected Stories; passes to the New England Aquarium, the Children's Museum and Water Country; a 1998 Ski Card International book; a $100 American Express gift cheque; and a Boston Celtics poster autographed by Red Auerbach.
The names of winners will be drawn at a solicitor thank-you party in mid-February. Winners will be notified by telephone.
