The Office of Special Community Services (OSCS, Rm 20A-023) has recently been informed that MIT and Lincoln Laboratory retirees can now donate to current and future United Way of Massachusetts Bay campaigns via payroll deduction from their monthly pension checks.
A mailing is going out this week to 1996 retirees explaining the procedure for making contributions through pension-check deductions.
Even though MIT's 1996-97 United Way campaign is officially over, donations are still being accepted through mid-February. As of January 23, the campaign had netted $278,737, or 93 percent of the $300,000 goal from 1,127 donors. There have been 61 Leadership Givers who have contributed at least $1,000 each.
The 1995-96 campaign raised $287,566 from 1,387 donors, including 57 Leadership Givers.
A raffle of numerous prizes donated by various businesses, for which all contributors are entered, will be held at a chief solicitors' thank-you party on Friday, Feb. 14 from 2:30-4pm in Twenty Chimneys in the Student Center. Winners will be notified by phone. Check with OSCS or departmental solicitors for a list of more than 20 prizes to be awarded.
Members of the MIT community who wish to give to this year's United Way Campaign and haven't done so already are asked to contact Liz Mulcahy, MIT employee campaign manager, in OSCS at x3-7914 for further campaign information or for blank pledge forms.
