The 1997 United Way campaign at MIT will officially begin on Wednesday, Oct. 22 and run through December 31. This year the goal is $315,000 (up from $300,000 last year), and the United Way of Massachusetts Bay goal is $42.9 million. Funds raised will help more than 2.2 million children and adults in Eastern Massachusetts.
President Charles M. Vest recently sent out a letter to all department heads requesting that they designate a chief solicitor for their area. Names of chief solicitors were to be sent to MIT's United Way headquarters in the Office of Special Community Services, Rm 20A-023, by September 24.
An important meeting for chief solicitors will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 10:30am-noon in Twenty Chimneys (third floor of the Stratton Student Center). Dr. Vest will be the main speaker at the meeting, which will explain this year's campaign changes and strategies.
Departments that have not yet returned the reply form with the name of a chief solicitor or anyone with questions regarding the upcoming campaign may contact Liz Mulcahy, MIT employee campaign manager, at x3-7914.
