Some 170 runners-including 30 ROTC cadets who ran as a group-participated in Saturday's Community Service Fund Road Race. Overall winners were Joseph Fischetti Jr. of Lincoln Lab, who completed the 6,000-meter course in 21:41, and Jessica Nyquist (affiliation unknown), who clocked 27:08. Senior winners (over age 40) were James L. Terry of the Plasma Fusion Center at 22:32 and Marie E. Saiz of Resource Development at 37:06. Chad Acton, the son of technical instructor Steven Acton of military science, was the junior winner (under age 12) at 34:44.
Meanwhile, the annual campaign for CSF has raised more than $31,000 to date from 327 donors. In general, contributions are coming in more slowly than usual this year, according to Paul Parravano, secretary of the CSF trustees. However, he noted, a number of departments have achieved gratifying results, including the Sloan School, the Medical Department, the President's Office, the Alumni/ae Association, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Ocean Engineering.
"We hope that other departments will follow their lead," Mr. Parravano said. "The trustees are scheduled to meet at the end of May to make the major allocations for the coming year. It would be wonderful if they had a bountiful total to distribute."
