The article, which is in Greek, explores how participants spent six days learning the design process by making real products they can use in their daily lives.

The researchers found that, “children who played math games consistently showed a better grasp of the concepts…but that understanding did not appear to help in elementary school.”

A group of teenage girls from Los Angeles will present a solar powered tent designed to help combat homelessness during Lemelson-MIT’s EurekaFest, writes Sophie Gallagher for HuffPost. The tent comes equipped with “button-powered lights, two USB ports, a micro-USB port, and even plans for a sanitizing UVC light on a countdown timer,” explains Gallagher.

Fried explains that she believes the success of Adafruit is based on, “being focused on others, having an unconditional belief that you can be both a good cause and a good company, and seeing risk-taking as your friend and your only real competition as yourself.”

U.S. News & World Report’s Visi Tilak spotlights NuVu Studios, a school started by MIT graduates to create more hands-on learning experiences for middle and high school students. MIT alumna and NuVu co-founder Saba Ghole explains that students use “curiosity and creativity to explore new ideas, and make their concepts come to life.”

WDEF-12 TV reporter Jordan spotlights Renee Schebler, a graduate of the STEM School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, who plans to attend MIT this fall. Schebler developed a programmable bear for her senior business project and explains that “getting kids, especially girls, involved in STEM fields is a true passion of mine.”

Boston Globe reporter Stan Grossfeld spotlights a visit to the MIT Media Lab by Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas and Kalis Gregory, a seventh grader from Hyde Park. “They saw prosthetic limbs that are computerized to transmit information to the brain. They heard about digestible electronics that can harvest energy from moving body parts and they tested computer games with codes written by kids.”

In this video, WCVB Chronicle host Anthony Everett visits Prof. Neil Gershenfeld at the Center for Bits and Atoms to learn about the global network of Fab Labs. Everett explains that Gershenfeld sees Fab Labs as places of “collaboration and networking and mentoring where ideas can literally take form. Where you don’t borrow, but make what you want.”

Attendees were able to meet the women’s basketball team “and learn the science behind making the perfect shot. Other activities included learning math through dance and the physics of pitching, hosted by the school’s softball team.”
