The MIT Sociotechnical Systems Research Center (SSRC) invites you to its last spring seminar in the "Conversations on Sociotechnical Systems" series on Wed., May 7, from 4:15-5:30 p.m. in E38-615. Ashley Mateus, PhD student in Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology, and Jordan Peck, senior staff engineer at the New England Veterans Engineering Resource Center, will present “Healthcare Systems Improvement Work at the VA: Creating An Evaluation System for Teledermatology.” Light refreshments will be served.
Telehealth technologies are being employed to increase access, quality of care, and cost containment. The lack of widely accepted measures of telehealth performance and information on long-term changes in access, equity of care, and cost-effectiveness significantly limits the ability to architect a healthcare delivery system. Ashley Mateus will present results of her investigation into the current state of the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and plans for continued evaluation.
In 2008, the VHA’s Office of Systems Redesign committed to the creation of three regional Veterans Engineering Resource Centers (VERC) to provide management, systems, and industrial engineering and improvement expertise at both regional and national levels. Jordan Peck will describe the evolution of the VERC, current structure, projects, and ongoing relationship with MIT SSRC. He will explain how to engage with the VERC and the future vision of VERC leadership.
