Information Services and Technology (IS&T) now supports iOS 6, available from Apple as a free wireless update on a selection of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models. iOS 6 incorporates a variety of new features, including a completely revamped Maps application with turn-by-turn spoken navigation; a smarter Siri that now understands more languages; a redesigned Mail experience with features such as a VIP list to flag important contacts; a new app called Passbook that consolidates loyalty cards, coupons and airline boarding passes; enhanced accessibility features; and, if you weren't already connected enough, Facebook integration in native iOS apps such as Contacts, Calendar, and even Siri. Information regarding these and many other features can be found on Apple's iOS 6 page.
iOS 6 is compatible with the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, 4th- and 5th-generation iPod touch, and both the iPad 2 and the new iPad (3rd-generation).
To update your compatible iOS device, go to Settings, select General, and then select Software Update. IS&T recommends connecting to Wi-Fi prior to download, otherwise the download will count against your monthly data limit, if one exists. iOS 6 is also available to compatible devices via iTunes. First, you will need to update iTunes to version 10.7. Then, to install iOS 6, plug your device into your machine via a USB cable, select it under Devices, and click Check for Update.

The IS&T certificate renewal page has been updated to support iOS 6. If you have already installed iOS 6 or purchased a new iOS 6 device, launch Safari on your iOS device and go to https://ca.mit.edu/ca/ to obtain new MIT root and personal certificates. Also, please check IS&T's documentation for step-by-step instructions on how to set up certificates on the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad.
iOS-specific documentation can be found in the Knowledge Base in the iPhone and iPad sections of the Mobile Device Ninja.
MIT has its own mobile app, available in the Apple's App Store. To find it, search for MIT Mobile.
For additional assistance with iOS 6, send email to the Mobile Devices Team.
