On Oct. 26, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island visited MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center for a tour of the Alcator C-Mod facility. Led by PSFC Associate Director Martin Greenwald and Alcator Project Head Earl Marmar, the senator was briefed for about 90 minutes on MIT’s research program in fusion energy.
The senator has a keen interest in clean energy and environmental issues and is a member of the Senate budget committee. Sen. Whitehouse was accompanied by MIT alumnus Reiner Beeukwkes ’67 and former Massachusetts Congressman Chet Atkins, who facilitated the tour.
