The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has named Martin Zwierlein, an MIT assistant professor of physics, as one of 33 winners nationally of its annual Young Faculty Award (YFA) competition.
The YFA program combines funding and mentoring to promote both DoD-related research and professional growth for the up-and-coming generation of "rising faculty stars."
The award is for a two-year research grant of approximately $300,000 and will support Zwierlein's research on strongly interacting fermi gases in lower dimensions.
Zwierlein and this year’s other YFA recipients will be recognized by DARPA next month at a ceremony in Arlington, Va.
