With MIT President Susan Hockfield as the featured speaker, the Quarter Century Club (QCC) inducted 188 new members at an April 14 luncheon at the MIT Faculty Club. QCC President Yvonne L. Gittens welcomed new members and provided the history of the QCC. Also on hand to welcome inductees were QCC members with 50 years of service.
This year’s class comprises 111 inductees from campus, 70 from Lincoln Laboratory and seven from Haystack Observatory. There are currently 3,688 members of the club. A listing of new inductees and members with 50 years of service with MIT is available here.
Membership in the QCC is offered to faculty, administrative, research, support and service staff who have celebrated their 25th anniversary with the Institute on or before June 30. The club is chartered with promoting good fellowship among long-term associates of the MIT community and furthering the well being of its membership through cultural, educational and social events. The QCC hosts three annual social events: a summer gathering, the Silver Club High Tea in the fall and a holiday party in December.
In addition to social activities, the Quarter Century Club established the William R. Dickson Retiree Education Fund to honor William R. Dickson, Senior Vice President of the Institute, upon his retirement in 1998. The Dickson Fund recently expanded its scope and now awards grants to assist retired QCC members in the pursuit of their health, wellness, fitness, and educational goals.
