Statement from Theresa M. Stone on officer's arrest

MIT Executive Vice President and Treasurer Theresa M. Stone has issued the following statement regarding the arrest of an MIT Police officer.

"On March 14th, 2009, Officer Joseph D'Amelio of the MIT Police was arrested in East Boston for trafficking in prescription painkillers (Oxycontin and Roxycodone). He was immediately placed on administrative leave without pay. MIT's administration is creating a review panel of experienced, respected, objective individuals to determine whether MIT Police have the policies, governance and disciplinary systems needed to promote police practice at the highest level. The review panel will report to the President and to me. Ensuring the safety of MIT's students, faculty and staff is MIT's paramount concern."
