OFFICIAL RULES
If you enter the Contest, you agree to the terms and conditions of these Official Rules.
DURATION: Entries may be submitted between 12:01 a.m. on February 11, 2009 and 11:59 p.m. on March 31, 2009. Entries submitted before or after that period will not be considered.
ELIGIBILITY: Contest is open to all current MIT staff, students, and faculty. Contest organizers and judges may submit photos but will not be eligible for prizes.
HOW TO ENTER: Entries must be submitted by email to sustainability.contest@mit.edu Submissions will not be acknowledged.
NUMBER OF ENTRIES: You may submit no more than 5 entries.
ENTRIES: Each entry must include:
- your name
- your MIT affiliation
- a title of the photo
Entries may include a caption.
Entries must be your original work and may not have previously won an award.
Each entry must be in the following format:
- 2 megabytes or smaller;
- in JPEG or .jpg format; and
- at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image).
Entries need not be taken with a digital camera. Scans of negatives, transparencies, and photographic prints are acceptable, as are digitally manipulated images. No print or film submissions will be accepted.
Entries may not be a full-frame close up of another person's work, but may include such a work as an object in its environment.
MIT reserves the right to reject or disqualify any entry which MIT, in its sole discretion, determines to be inconsistent with the letter and spirit of the Official Rules or potentially damaging to its, the Contest’s or another’s image or reputation.
YOUR WARRANTIES:
By entering the Contest, you represent and warrant that:
- your entry is an original work created solely by you;
- your entry does not infringe another person’s or entity’s copyright, trademark, moral right, right of privacy or publicity, or other intellectual property right;
- no other person or entity has any right, title, or interest in the entry;
- you have obtained any and all releases and consents of third parties necessary to permit the exhibition and use of your entry in the manner set forth in these Official Rules without additional compensation; and
- if any person appearing in any photograph is under the age of majority, you have obtained the release and consent of the subject’s parent or legal guardian.
LICENSE: By entering the Contest, you grant MIT, for a period of five years following announcement of the Contest results, without compensation or approval rights:
- an unlimited, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable during the term, sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, distribute, exhibit, and display your entry, in and through any media now or hereafter known, alone or together with other entries, in connection with the conduct and reporting of the results, of the Contest and the promotion of the Contest and future occurrences of the Contest; and
- the unrestricted right to use your name in connection with your entry and the promotion, and reporting of the results, of the Contest; and
- the unrestricted right to use any picture or likeness taken or created in connection with the Contest, and any statements you make in connection with the Contest for purposes of promoting the Contest.
Any use or publication of your entry will be credited to you.
JUDGING: Entries will be judged based on:
- thematic relevance;
- originality; and
- aesthetic value.
The decisions of the judges will be final and binding with respect to all matters relating to the Contest.
PRIZES:
The grand prize winner will receive an Apple iPhone 3G and have his or her photo published in Tech Talk, MIT’s official newspaper, as well as on the MIT home page. The first runner-up will receive a Flip Ultra Camcorder. The second-runner-up will receive a gift certificate to The Coop.
If you win, MIT will attempt to notify you. In order to claim the prize, you must sign and return within 10 days following MIT’s attempted notification, an agreement confirming your entry’s compliance with the requirements set forth in these Official Rules and your acceptance of the terms and conditions set forth in these Official Rules. Failure to execute and deliver the agreement to MIT prior to the specified deadline may result in your forfeiture of the prize and selection of an alternative winner.
If you receive a prize, you are responsible for all taxes, fees, and surcharges related thereto.
In the event that any selected winner of a prize is ineligible, cannot be found based on information provided, does not respond within 10 days after MIT’s attempted notification, or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and MIT, in its sole discretion, will decide whether or not to award the prize to another entrant.
LIMITATION OF MIT LIABILITY:
By entering the Contest, you release, discharge and agree to indemnify MIT and its affiliates and subsidiaries and their respective employees, officers, directors, trustees and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of your participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activities.
MIT is not responsible for any technical problems or human error that may result in an entry not being received or being lost or damaged or for any destruction or alteration of, or unauthorized access to, Contest entries or entry forms.
RIGHTS TO CANCEL OR SUSPEND CONTEST:
If for any reason the Contest cannot proceed due to technical difficulties or any cause beyond MIT’s control or if MIT determines that the integrity of the Contest has been compromised, MIT may cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the Contest. In the event of cancellation or termination, the license rights you granted to MIT above shall terminate.
