MIT's Department of Athletics, Physical Education & Recreation (DAPER) held the third annual cardboard boat regatta - the Head of the Zesiger - from 2:30-4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in the Aquatics Center at the Zesiger Sports & Fitness Center. This event is unique in that it challenges students, faculty/staff and MIT community members to construct a boat from corrugated cardboard, paper tape, and lacquer. Each boat must have a crew of three individuals (a captain and two mates) and must navigate a 50-meter race course using only three kickboards for propulsion. The panel of judges is made up of faculty from various departments across campus. A fun, inventive and competitive event, the Head of the Zesiger is a perfect environment for students wishing to use their engineering abilities.
