MIT Alumni Association President Harbo Jensen PhD '74 announced July 2 that Sherwin Greenblatt '62, director of the MIT Venture Mentoring Service, has agreed to serve as the interim executive vice president and CEO of the association while a search is conducted to fill the position. Greenblatt will continue to lead the Venture Mentoring Service as well.
Elizabeth A. Garvin HM, executive vice president and CEO of the MIT Alumni Association, will be leaving MIT in July to become vice president for institutional engagement at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Greenblatt, retired from Bose Corporation, was the first employee of Amar Bose '51, his former MIT professor. As the company grew, Greenblatt held the positions of project engineer, chief engineer, director of engineering, executive vice president and, for 15 years, president. From 2005 to 2007, he served as the executive vice president and treasurer of MIT.
A community and professional leader, he has served on the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, as chair of the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, and as chairman of the board of trustees at Framingham (Massachusetts) State College. He currently is a member of the board of trustees of the Olin College of Engineering, the graduate advisory board of Babson College and the corporation of the Draper Laboratory. Greenblatt holds two degrees in electrical engineering from MIT.
"We are delighted that Sherwin has agreed to take on this role," Jensen said. "Not only does he bring extensive management experience and a deep knowledge of MIT, he has been a valued partner to the Association for many years."
Antonia D. Schuman '58, who began her service July 1 as president of the Alumni Association, added "Sherwin's service to MIT continues to be extraordinary and we are grateful that he has agreed to serve in this additional role. I look forward to working closely with him in the coming months."
A nationwide search, headed by past Alumni Association President Scott Marks '68, is under way. Jensen invites the MIT community to share their thoughts on possible candidates by emailing the search committee with nominations and general interest inquiries to ceoapp@alum.mit.edu.
