MIT students and staff spread a weekend's worth of trash gathered from Ashdown House and McCormick Hall in front of Kresge Auditorium during a dorm waste audit held Oct. 3. The project, aimed at determining what MIT students throw away and how some of their trash might be recycled, was sponsored by MIT's Laboratory for Energy and the Environment (LFEE) and the Environmental Programs Office (EPO), and is part of the fall Freshman Advising Seminar, "Greening Our Garbage: Taking Action on MIT's Trash." In the seminar, students explore the history and science of solid waste, and act locally while considering global solid waste challenges.
