President Susan Hockfield, faculty and staff joined students and graduates of MIT's Minority Introduction to Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Science program, known on campus as MITE2S, in celebrating the program's 30th anniversary at an event held July 29 in the Stratton Student Center.
The MITES Class of 2005 presented sessions on Internet programming and genomics and held an engineering design contest during the day.
Hockfield was the evening's keynote speaker, joining MITE2S Executive Director Karl Reid and graduates of MITE2S at the podium.
In her comments, Hockfield offered a challenge to the MITES Class of 2005.
"I offer you the challenge to keep inspiring the many people who have put their hopes for you into this program. We challenge you to continue your accelerating trajectory, to keep raising the bar for your academic and social leadership in your schools, in your communities and in your colleges. We challenge you to ignite the hopes and ambitions of others by sharing the MITES inspiration. Congratulations to all of you who have made MITES, this magnificent program that we celebrate tonight. It is a wonderful inspiration for me and for people around the nation," Hockfield said.
