Open house for support staff
The Working Group on Support Staff Issues is hosting a support staff open house and spring social gathering on Friday, March 26 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Bush Room (10-105). Event looks at engineering systems
A symposium on March 29-31 will explore advances in engineering systems research and education. Topics include foundational issues (complexity, flexibility, uncertainty and system architecture), system domains (transportation, energy, telecommunications and aerospace), and socioeconomic, political, and institutional factors.
Speakers include President Charles M. Vest; William Wulf, president of the National Academy of Engineering; Sheila Widnall, Institute Professor and member of the Columbia Accident Investigation Board; Fred Salvucci, architect and official on the Boston Central Artery Project (the "Big Dig").

QCC inducts new members
The Quarter Century Club induction ceremony and luncheon for new members will be held on Wednesday, April 14 at the Faculty Club at 11:45 a.m. Membership in the club is offered to faculty, administrative, research, support and service staff who will complete 25 years of service at MIT by June 30, 2004. Those who are eligible for membership but have not yet received an invitation to attend the luncheon may call the Quarter Century Club in the Community Services Office at 253-7914.
Airport shuttle rides offered
The Parking and Transportation Office will provide Logan Airport shuttle service for spring break on Friday and Saturday, March 19 and 20 from Kresge lot. Prizes offered for essays, travel
The 30th annual I. Austin Kelly III Essay Prizes and the fifth annual spring Kelly-Douglas Traveling Fellowships will be awarded in April. The deadline for submitting essays and fellowship applications is Wednesday, April 14 at 5 p.m. in 4-246.
Any full-time undergraduates may submit one or more historical, analytical or sociological essays, which may concern any field or combination of fields in the humanities, arts or social sciences. Two 15-to-30-page essays each will win $800. Traveling fellowships of up to $1,200 will be awarded to juniors for projects in the humanities or arts that require travel, preferably this summer.
