Car window etching today
MIT Police, in conjunction with the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force, will be doing anti-theft automobile window etching today (May 21) from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. next to Simmons Hall on Vassar Street. A vehicle identification number is chemically etched into each piece of glass on your vehicle, discouraging car thieves. There is a $10 fee, but participants qualify for a 15 percent anti-theft discount on comprehensive auto insurance if they don't already have an anti-theft device. Bring the vehicle registration and $10 in cash. In case of rain, the program will be canceled.
Child care scholarships offered
The Center for Work, Family and Personal Life (CWFPL) has announced a new scholarship program to assist income-eligible MIT employees, postdocs and graduate students with fees at MIT child care centers starting in the fall. The program targets MIT families with net incomes of less than $80,000 per year whose children are enrolled at Eastgate, Westgate and Lincoln Laboratory Children's Center. The new Technology Children's Center at the Stata Center will open in June 2004.
Taplin Awards Symposium Thursday
The John F. and Virginia B. Taplin Awards Symposium and the celebration of Mr. Taplin's 90th birthday will take place Thursday, May 22 in Room E25-117. The awards support faculty and students in the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology's programs in biomedical engineering, physics and chemistry.
