Commencement tickets available Monday

Commencement tickets may be picked up by graduating students in Room 7-121 from Monday, May 19 until the morning of the exercises (June 9). Each graduate is allotted four guest tickets. A ticket is required for each guest in the seating area, including children three or older. Graduates must show both a picture ID and a receipt for cap and gown rental or purchase. Before June 9, they must pick up their tickets in person. On Commencement Day, a family member may pick up tickets by presenting the graduate's picture ID.

The Commencement Committee is seeking volunteers to help on June 9 during the assembly and procession of graduates and faculty, or to provide guest services for families and friends on Killian Court. Hundreds of volunteers will be needed, many from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Employees who'd like to volunteer in the assembly should contact Julie Norman at jbnorman@mit.edu. Those who'd like to help with guest services should sign up at http://web.mit.edu/commencement/2003/volunteer.


Deshpande proposals sought

The Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation is seeking pre-proposals for the fall 2003 grant round. The center is part of the School of Engineering and supports emerging technology including biotech, information technology, new materials, "tiny tech" and alternative energy development.

Ignition Program grants are awarded for research in the earliest stages to allow faculty and students to explore ideas before they've developed proof of concept or gathered any data. Innovation Program grants are awarded for ideas that have progressed further. Those interested should submit a pre-proposal by June 9. Successful applicants must prepare a formal proposal by July 28. Soccer at Pacific Street

The graduate students of 70 Pacific St. have invited their Cambridge neighbors and the MIT community to join them in a friendly soccer match at Pacific Street Park on Saturday, May 17 at 3 p.m. to celebrate the transfer of the park's deed from MIT to the city. The celebration also will include food from Passport: A Taste of Europe, the restaurant at 70 Pacific St. T-shirts emblazoned with "Pacific Street Park" will be given to participants. Players may call 253-1988 to sign up. The rain date is Sunday.


Neuroimaging symposium

The Clinical Research Center will hold its 2003 symposium, "Neuroimaging: Toolbox for Clinical Neuroscience," on Tuesday, May 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. in Room 68-180. Speakers include Bruce R. Rosen, director of the Martinos Center for Functional and Structural Biomedical Imaging. The event is free but registration is required; call 253-3091.
