Some Facilities staff moving to Tech Square

More than 100 Department of Facilities employees will be moving to leased space in 600 Technology Square (Building NE49) this Friday, Jan. 31.

Facilities personnel now in Building 45 at 45 Vassar St. and Building NE20 at Three Cambridge Center will be among those moving into the new space. Building 45 will be demolished later this year in preparation for construction of the brain and cognitive sciences project.

Areas of Facilities that aren't moving include Building Services, Grounds Services, Mail Services, Repair and Maintenance, and the Key Office. The move to Building NE49 will reunite several groups that previously shared space in Building E18.

Facilities employees who are moving to Building NE49 will be without phone service from Friday, Jan. 31 through Monday, Feb. 3 at 6 a.m. As a result of a temporary shutdown of the department's computer servers at noon on Friday, Jan. 31, all Facilities staff members (even those who aren't moving) will be without e-mail until Monday, Feb. 3 at 6 a.m. The Space Accounting web page also will not be available during this time. In lieu of using the "cust-coach" e-mail address for Building Services requests, members of the MIT community should call Building Services directly at 253-7923.

Repair and Maintenance request forms will not be affected by the move. As usual, members of the MIT community should use the web forms or call 253-4948 for all routine and emergency repair requests. The Operations Center will not be affected by the move and will continue to be open 24 hours a day to serve the MIT community.

The following groups (listed with their new office addresses) will be closed for the move:

Facilities Administrative Offices (NE49-2200, NE49-3100, NE49- 3300); Development, Design and Construction (NE49-2100, NE49- 2300); Drawing Information Systems (NE49-2100); Finance and Accounting (NE49-3200); Space Administration (NE49-2300); Systems Engineering Group (NE49-2400); Utilities (NE49-3400).

E-mail addresses and telephone numbers for the affected offices and employees will not change. There may be some reassigning of fax numbers, however.

Building NE49, is the new five-story office building on the corner of Portland and Main streets. Facilities staff will occupy the entire second floor and will share the third floor with the Controller's Office.
