"Chant Down Babylon," an event featuring a screening of "Life and Debt" and a concert by Grammy award-winning reggae artist Yami Bolo, will take place tomorrow (June 6) at 7 p.m. in Room 54-100.
Utilizing excerpts from Jamaica Kincaid's award-winning nonfiction text "A Small Place," "Life and Debt" portrays the lives of individual Jamaicans affected by foreign economic powers. The film was named best documentary at the Jamaican Film Festival and received a Critics Jury Award honorable mention at the West Los Angeles Film Festival.
Organized by Students for a Democratic Commencement working with the MIT administration, the screening will be followed by a discussion led by the film's director, Stephanie Black, and a concert by Bolo. For more information, call x3-4816.
