Construction update

SIMMONS HALL

Work on the dining areas on the first floor continues. A temporary card-swiper has been installed at the front entrance of the building until the permanent security system is in place. Temporary ceiling tiles in the main lobby have been replaced. The remaining tiles are on site and will be replaced floor by floor. Noise from the remaining construction work is being mitigated to minimize disturbance to residents.

VASSAR STREET UTILITIES

Relocation of the chilled water line for Building 36 is in progress; no disruption in service is anticipated. Excavation for the steam line to Advanced Energy across Main Street is taking place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to minimize traffic impact. The steam piping and backfill at Johnson Athletics is nearing completion. Vassar Street will remain one way heading west from Main Street to Massachusetts Avenue until June 2003.

STATA CENTER

Construction of a tunnel connecting the Stata Center to Building 26 will begin shortly. Temporary building enclosures are being installed in preparation for inclement weather. Installation of the below-grade supports for the exterior stairs leading to the raised garden continues.

CHEMISTRY BUILDING

Repair work on the east concrete facade is nearing completion. Installation of mechanical systems continues. Exterior metal panels are also being installed on the roof penthouse.
