Campus construction update

SIMMONS HALL

Roofing is complete and elevators are all operational, as is hot and chilled water service. The curbs have been reinstalled. Temporary fencing will be installed in areas where construction access is still required at the back and sides of the building. Dorm furniture is being installed with the permission of the fire captain. Window and shower curtains will be installed soon. Final construction activities will continue after the residents have moved in.

VASSAR STREET UTILITIES

Vassar Street will be one way from Main Street to Massachusetts Avenue until January 2003. All traffic traveling east on Vassar must turn left at Massachusetts Avenue and right on Albany Street to get to Main Street. Work zones will be set up on the south half of the street, with traffic traveling on the north half. Pedestrians will use sidewalks on the north side. Access to all buildings on both sides will be maintained during construction. Message boards on both ends of Vassar will alert drivers to the changes and direct eastbound drivers to Albany Street. Work zone locations will shift as work progresses.

STATA CENTER

Steel erection of the Dreyfoos Tower entrance is underway. Exterior brickwork continues. Rooftop air-handling units on the Dreyfoos Tower are being installed. Exposed pipes are being installed on Levels P2, P1, the basement, and Levels 1 and 2. Interior underground masonry, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection work are ongoing.

ZESIGER CENTER

The passageway to Rockwell Cage is almost complete, as are general interior finishes. A temporary entrance to duPont is now located at Building W31 (Campus Police) on Massachusetts Avenue. There are also two entrances on Vassar Street: near the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Vassar Street, and via the alley between Rockwell Cage and duPont. These are the only points of access to duPont.

BAKER HOUSE

The next phase of renovation is underway. Barriers have been set up around the construction site, and access is limited. There will be noise from mortar joint grinding in preparation for repointing.

CHEMISTRY BUILDING

Noisy repair work on the east concrete faade continues. Mechanical systems also are being installed.

MEDIA LAB EXPANSION

The project is being delayed until fund-raising is complete. In the meantime, construction fences and pedestrian barriers have been relocated and sidewalks have been rebuilt.

70 PACIFIC ST.

Construction is complete and students will move into the building shortly.

HAYDEN LIBRARY

This project will move and reshape the circulation area, which will expand to include the Reserve Book Room collection and services, as well as a 24/7 study space.

During the renovation period, which will run through late August, patrons will enter the Science and Humanities Libraries through the Lewis Music Library. Book returns and other circulation services will take place at the Lewis Music Library circulation desk during this period.
