The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (DMSE) has announced its student awards for 2001-02.
Awards for Outstanding Senior Thesis were presented to Robin Ivester of Charleston, S.C., for his thesis titled "The Fabrication and Magneto-Mechanical Characterization of Ni-Mn-Ga Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Composites for Energy Absorption and Damping"; and Tiffany Santos of Valdosta, Ga., for her thesis, "Ferromagnetic Europium Oxide as a Spin-Filter Material."
The award for Best 3B Internship Report went to Steven Tobias , a senior from Plainview, N.Y., for "Study of the Structure and Electrical Transport Properties of Near Stoichiometric Indium Monoselenide.
Lauren Frick , a junior from North Huntingdon, Penn., received the Award for Outstanding Service to the DMSE Community. A certificate was presented to Trisha Montalbo , a senior from State College, Penn.
The Outstanding Junior Award went to Afua Banful of Kia Accra, Ghana. The award for Outstanding Student in the Class of 2002 went to Montalbo .
Graduate student Nicole Zacharia of Boston won the John Wulff Award for Excellence in Teaching.
