Campus construction update

MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE

As construction continues on the city storm drain project, the crosswalk in front of 77 Massachusetts Ave. will be temporarily relocated 100 feet up the street towards Vassar Street. Handicapped access to the main building will be provided at the Amherst Street crosswalk only. The relocation is expected to last until mid-February.

SIMMONS HALL

Construction and placement of a concrete base may cause traffic disruption on Vassar Street.

BAKER HOUSE

In preparation for window replacement, samples of sealants and paints will be taken from the interior and exterior of the building. Technicians may use binoculars and ladders for the outside observations and will also enter many of the dorm rooms to take samples of the materials.

70 PACIFIC ST. (GRAD DORM)

Construction on the new graduate residence may affect pedestrian and vehicular traffic and also cause noise and dust.

SPORTS & FITNESS CENTER

Soil excavation continues, causing much truck traffic in and near the Kresge parking lot.

STATA CENTER

Drilling continues, causing some noise and vibration. Heavy truck traffic in and out of the site at the Vassar and Main Streets intersection is expected for the next several weeks.

LIFE SAFETY

Installation of a fire protection water pipe near Kresge Auditorium may disrupt daytime vehicular traffic and cause noise, vibration and some dust.

ALBANY STREET GARAGE

The walkway between Buildings 42 and 44 at the railroad crossing connecting Vassar Street to the Albany Garage will be closed to pedestrian traffic through late January. While the walkway is closed, Facilities will sponsor a limited shuttle service to parking facilities along Albany Street through January 31 -- see http://web.mit.edu/parking/albanyshuttle.html.
