PARKING
Guests attending the Commencement exercises who drive to campus will be directed to the West Garage and CRA Parking Lot. Employees who hold West Garage or CRA lot parking permits will be directed to parking in an off-campus location that day. Arrangements have been made for complimentary parking at the North Station Parking Garage located adjacent to the Fleet Center. Shuttle buses will be running from 6-10am from the garage to the MIT campus. The buses will make the return trip from 3-7pm. See the Parking and Transportation web site for details. The cooperation of these permit holders is appreciated.
REMOTE VIEWING
The Commencement exercises will be broadcast on MIT Cable TV as well as on the web -- there will be a link from the MIT home page. There will be closed-circuit TV viewing sites in Kresge Auditorium, Kresge Little Theater, Lobdell Cafeteria, the first floor of the Johnson Athletics Center, the lobbies of the Student Center and Buildings 10 and E52, and Rms 1-132, 1-134, 1-135, 1-190, 2-131, 2-132, 2-135, 2-139, 2-142, 2-143, 2-147, 2-151, 2-190, 4-145, 4-149, 4-153, 4-159, 4-163, 4-231, 4-237, 4-370, 10-250, 16-160, 26-100, 34-101, 56-114, E25-111, E51-145, E51-149 and E51-325. Tickets are not required for these rooms. Access to Killian Court will be by ticket or staff badge only.
PUBLICATIONS
Campus publications, apart from the Commencement program, will not be available in Killian Court. Publications will be available at their usual distribution points in the corridors.
FLOWERS
Flowers used to decorate the Commencement stage will be sold to the community as in years past. The sale will begin Friday at 4pm in Killian Court. Margarette topiary, geraniums, asters, New Guinea impatiens and dusty miller will be available at bargain prices. These flowers are donated by the Commencement Committee and proceeds of the sale benefit the MIT Community Service Fund. Volunteers to help with the sale are needed. To sign up, call x3-1989.

- 1pm -- Chancellor Lawrence S. Bacow and Dean for Graduate Students Isaac M. Colbert preside at a special hooding ceremony for doctoral recipients at the Johnson Athletic Center.
- 3:30-5pm -- Infinite Connection reception for the Class of 2001, families and alumni.
- 8pm -- Tech Night at the Pops.
Friday
- 8:15am -- Graduates report to the robing/assembly area in the Johnson Athletic Center while guests are admitted to Killian Court.
- 9:40am -- Procession leaves Kresge Oval.
- 9:58am -- Academic procession arrives at Killian Court.
- 10am -- Chief Marshall Paul Rudovsky, president of the MIT Association of Alumni and Alumnae, leads the stage principals, members of the MIT Corporation, the faculty and the Class of 1950 into Killian Court.
- 10:10am -- Graduates enter Killian Court.
- 10:42am -- Rev. Constance Parvey, Lutheran chaplain, offers the Invocation.
- 10:45am -- Professor Ellen Harris sings the National Anthem.
- 10:47am -- Alex d'Arbeloff, chair of the MIT Corporation, welcomes guests to the platform and introduces principal speaker Daniel S. Goldin, NASA administrator.
- 10:48am -- Mr. Goldin delivers his address.
- 11:09am -- GSC President Soulaymane Kachani offers a salute to MIT and Senior Class President Erick Tseng presents the class gift.
- 11:13am -- President Vest delivers the charge to the graduates.
- 11:33am -- 2,413 diplomas are presented to 2,117 undergraduate and graduate students (verify) by President Vest and Provost Robert A. Brown.
- 1:33pm -- Mr. d'Arbeloff announces that the Commencement exercises are concluded, and the MIT Chorallaries sing the MIT song.
- 1:38pm -- Chief Marshall Rudovsky leads the academic recession out of Killian Court.
- There will be a reception for graduate and their families hosted by President Vest in Steinbrenner Stadium immediately following the ceremony.
Saturday
- 9am-noon -- Technology Day morning program on "Origins and Beyond: Our Place in the Cosmos," followed by luncheon at 12:30pm.
- 3-5pm -- Technology Day afternoon panels examining the development of the mind, materials and machines that will enhance our lives, and exploration from the depths of the ocean to outer space.
- 9pm-midnight -- Great Court Gala.
Sunday
- 8am -- Reunion Row, Pierce Boathouse
- 11am-1pm -- Tech Challenge Games, Steinbrenner Stadium
- 12:30pm -- Techsas BBQ, location TBA
