Lecturer Mark Harvey and his Aardvark Jazz Orchestra conclude their fall season with their 29th annual Christmas benefit concert at the Harvard-Epworth United Methodist Church in Harvard Square on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 8 p.m. The concert, "Meditations on Peace," features updated carol arrangements, selections from Ellington sacred concert repertory and other music in the spirit of the season. The Silverwood Trio, featuring soprano/flutist Cindy Woolley, a technical assistant in the Department of Biology, will hold a CD release concert and party on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Ann Church (68 St. Stephen St., Boston). The performance will include selections from the group's debut recording, featuring a song cycle by local composer and trio pianist Paul Hoffman inspired by Professor Alan Lightman's 1993 novel "Einstein's Dreams."
"They should engage guest conductors more often," proclaimed The Washington Post praising Assistant Professor Dante Anzolini's guest appearance on Nov. 11 with the Choral Arts Society of Washington, D.C. Anzolini, director of the MIT Symphony Orchestra, led the ensemble in the local premiere of Philip Glass' "Symphony No. 5" at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
"[Page] Hazlegrove's medium was glass, which she used as expressively and experimentally as any sculptor working in marble or bronze," wrote Christine Temin in a Boston Globe review praising the "Incandescent Spirit: Page Hazlegrove" exhibition. "If nature is a force in her work, so are science and technology." The works of sculpture in glass by the late artist, a popular teacher and champion of the MIT Glass Lab, are on view at the Compton Gallery through Friday, Dec. 14.
