Cambridge, MA--Saturday, May 20, the Cambridge community and MIT will engage in a battle of wits in a chess tournament to benefit the Cambridge School Volunteers, which provides programs of support for Cambridge school children. The exhibition match, dubbed the "Town-Gown Crown" will be a part of a day-long open tournament, sanctioned by the US Chess Federation. All proceeds from the tournament go to the Cambridge School Volunteers program.
The exhibition match will be played at 2:30 pm with two teams of four rotating people. Cambridge City Councilors Jonathan Meyers and Frank Duehay; Robin Harris, Cambridge school committee member; and a representative of Rindge and Latin High School will play for Cambridge. The MIT team will consist of three members of the MIT Chess Team and Paul Parravano, MIT assistant for community relations and one of the event's organizers.
The tournament will be held in Twenty Chimneys in the Stratton Student Center at 84 Massachusetts Avenue, from 10 am-12:15 pm and 2:30-4:45 pm. Registration will be from 8:45 am -9:45 am. Entry fee is from $10 to $20 depending on entrant's status. Boston area chess players from novice to expert are invited to join the tournament.
